Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

About Me

Hello, and Welcome!

Hi, I'm Bethany.
I'm a third-generation New Englander, but I love to travel and explore our great country as well as abroad.
I'm a wife and mother to five, including kids in high school all the way down to our sweet surprise package in April 2016.

I have two degrees: BA in English Literature, and a BA in Spanish. I studied abroad in Granada, Spain my junior year of college, and lived with a host family. I spent seven weeks wandering around Europe after the school year ended (and all my money ran out). I don't think I could ever let my kids do that! ha ha

I taught high school English and Spanish before having children, but it was only for a few years. I tried to teach part-time after Ethan was born, but I couldn't do it. Sometimes I wish I had stuck with it, but I have cherished my time with my children when they were small. I guess I'm kind of starting all over with that now. :)

I love music! I am a classically trained pianist, but I love to compose my own music as well. I remember writing and performing my first song at the age of five. My mother says that by age one, I would grab hold of anything and try to hold it up to my mouth like a microphone. She has pictures of me doing this with my Great-Grandmother's cane, a stick from our yard, and more often than not, the vacuum cleaner wand. I performed in several musicals and plays throughout high school. I would love to get back into that one day.

My husband and I learned the hard way that we are not cut out for house reno. At least not while living in said house. Funny enough, we love the process of re-designing and improving a space, so maybe one day we will dabble in the world of real estate and reno someone else's house. ;)
You can read about our adventures in "flipping" HERE. - it was all in an effort to raise needed funds for our second adoption. LOTS of lessons learned through that process! We made another move to a different town in December 2015, while six months pregnant. That was so hard! But homeschooling no longer felt like what we were called to be doing, and we preferred the school district here, so we forged ahead. It was definitely the right thing for us. Sadly, we experienced several failed adoptions, but God is good and we welcomed our fourth son into our family in 2016.
You can read about that HERE.
Our daughter was adopted from Guatemala in 2008. I've written several posts about our adoption journey, but one of the most popular ones is HERE.

I also design and sell clothing and nightgowns on Etsy. I first created the shop in order to raise money for our second adoption. That is on hold now so we use that to sponsor a little boy with Compassion International, and hopefully will be able to add a few more children in the near future.
This has been a huge blessing to our family, and I enjoy using my creative side as well.
My shops are Rose & Ruffle and Dash & Dapper
